What is FINA approved?
What does FINA approved mean?
FINA approved is a special type of suit (technical) that is required for most upper level swim meets.
Those make it easy for officials to spot that you're using a legitimate suit. Some Speedo suits don't have them but they ARE valid. Make sure to confirm with the officials so that they know.
FINA or Fédération internationale de natation (English: International Swimming Federation) is the international federation recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for administering international competition in Aquatics. FINA approved swimwear has to be used at FINA events and Olympic Games. Swimsuits that are not approved by FINA cannot be used at these events.
Make sure, if are not at the elite level, that any FINA approved suit only has one logo on it! Many leagues (Y, USA) will disqualify a swimmer for being 'sponsored' if there is more than one logo. no matter how small!!! (I'm talking brand, not the FINA label)
