Swimming in a triathlon
Triathletes and swimmers, please help me! I need guidance on how to train for the swimming portion of a triathlon. I am an intermediate swimmer, but have never swam in the open water.
If you are already a confident swimmer, you are halfway there. There are a couple of things you can do to prepare for open water swimming without a lake or ocean.
First, you can practice arching your back and kicking faster- two things that are necessary for sighting- by swimming laps with your head lifted, out of the water. Second, you can train by swimming as normal, and lifting your head to scan your surroundings every 7 strokes. This is a little less tiring than the first option, but still effective in practicing your sighting.
