Gym exercises for swimmers

  • I am trying to mix up my weekly workout schedule, what are some good gym exercises for swimmers? I am looking for different routines using weights and some good ab exercises. I’m fairly strong, but targeting new muscles and switching things up is always good!

  • I’m not an expert, but any exercise that helps to strengthen your core is a good exercise in my book, as swimming uses a lot of core muscles.

    Try these for starters:
    Hold a plank
    Push-ups with your legs elevated on a stability ball
    Kettlebell swings
    Mountain climbers

  • Core is great, but don't forget your legs! Legs are often one of the most neglected elements of any stroke. For the gym, try: Jump squats, high knee kicks, lunges, pulse squats, calf raises, and side leg raises.
